About Us

We are a group of Presidential Scholars at the University of Northern Iowa.  The sophomore year of the Presidential Scholarship Program is dedicated to community engagement. During the year the class is divided into two teams, each with a different project.

Our group is Team Destination,
and our mission is:

To better connect the University of Northern Iowa with the people of the Cedar Valley
in order to raise awareness and
provide relief for the lingering effects
of the floods of 2008.

We chose to focus our project on the flooding in Iowa last summer because of the great need that still exists and how close the issue struck home. Whether our own homes or the homes of our friends and families suffered flood damage, or we watched on TV as 40,000 people across the Midwest were forced to evacuate their homes, the flooding affected each of us.

We will be hosting a 5K run/walk titled Footsteps for Flood Relief: 5,000 Meters to Show We Care on Saturday, April 4, 2009. All proceeds will be donated to the local United Way, to benefit families in the Cedar Valley with unmet needs after the floods of 2008. Team Destination wishes this event to unite the students and faculty of UNI with the community in a visible manner.
